The work began between the 10th and 17th December 1891. It was blessed on Whitsun Monday, 6th June 1892.

It is meant to represent the cave of Gethsemani, in the Valley of Cedron, at the foot of the Mount of Olives. Jesus's attitude of abandon will leave no one indifferent.

On 22nd November, the work on the environnement of the grotto began again. It is the representation of the Valley of Cedron, with a small bridge and a wide path opening onto a perspective of the Calvary. This work was completed during the second term of 1893.
